Olive Knolls Christian School was established in 1979 to provide a Christian education to families in Bakersfield. For over 30 years, OKCS has partnered with families to support their educational, emotional, and spiritual growth.
We hope that if you are a visitor to our site, you will get a sense of our proud tradition of excellence through worship, community, and service.
Our warm and welcoming staff would be glad to give you a tour of our school for all or any of our programs.
Spending time in worship is the highlight of our week. Students come together with their teachers and have a time of music and teaching.
Our preschoolers attend chapel four days a week where they focus on the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’.
Elementary and Middle School students attend chapel once a week where our chaplain leads worship and teaching of Christ-like character through monthly virtues.
Olive Knolls Christian School is a vibrant learning community that develops the whole child.
At every age level, students at OKCS are challenged to grow and learn. Our curriculum is carefully and prayerfully chosen to optimize the time we have with your children. We review curriculum regularly to ensure that we are providing the best to our students.
Our teachers are well prepared for the ages/grades/subjects they teach and participate in continuous professional development to keep current with educational trends.
Students prepared at OKCS enjoy success as they move to their high school years whether at private or public high school.
OKCS participates in a number of community service projects throughout the year that help our students, in age appropriate ways, to learn to see needs and take action.
Some highlights of our yearly projects are:
- Christmas and Easter dinner food drive for The Hope Center
- Christmas stocking collection for needy children
- Pennies for Leukemia
- Coin drive for earthquake relief in Haiti
- ‘Bags and Prayers’ toiletries for the Bakersfield Rescue Mission
- Stocking shelves and food at The Hope Center
Our classes are encouraged to participate in service opportunities as they see needs arise in the community and the world.
Some of those project highlights are:
- Purchasing a goat farm to be ‘planted’ in Haiti
- Selling hot chocolate to purchase animals for families in Africa
- Valentines for the Bakersfield Rescue Mission
